But here’s the thing. Over the years, I’ve found that integrating certain habits into my daily routine has made an immense difference on my mental well-being. 

So today, I will share my top 11 daily habits that have helped me support mental health, while building my company. I hope this will help you on your journey!

We’re so caught up in the day-to-day hustle, checking off our to-do lists, that we often forget our mental health.

1. Start the Day Right

I cannot stress this enough. Start your day right!

Personally, I begin every day with a calm morning routine.

It includes getting up 2 hours before my kids wake up so that I can have alone time in tranquillity.

I will bullet journal my intentions for the day, speak some gratitude affirmations and manifestations into water, then spend some time on creative writing.

I also like to spend a few minutes in mindfulness meditation. I sit quietly, focus on my breathing…just being present. 

It sets the tone for the day, helping me start off calm and centered.

It doesn’t matter what you do in your morning routine, as long as it helps you feel grounded.

2. Plan Your Day

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by a never-ending to-do list. 

Sometimes it just seems like the more I do; the more is left to complete.

The trick is planning your day.

Take a few minutes each morning to write down what you need to get done and prioritize it. 

Trust me. This works wonders to combat that entrepreneurial anxiety. At the end of the day, you’ll get a boost of serotonin when you cross out what you accomplished.

And don’t worry about anything you didn’t complete, simply carry it over to tomorrow’s list.

3. Make Time for Exercise

Look, I get it. As an entrepreneur, it feels like there’s never enough time. 

But carving out some time for a workout, whether a jog around the block or an at-home yoga session, is crucial. 

Exercise releases those feel-good endorphins, plus it’s a great stress buster.

So dear entrepreneur, sweat it out.

We all know exercise is good for our physical health, but it is also incredible for our mental health. 

Aim for high-intensity cardio exercises like running or swimming if you want that extra kick. 

4. Make Time For Nature

Appreciating nature and relaxing in it is just as important as active exercise.

In the warm months, I like to bring my laptop outside and do whatever work task I have that day in the sunshine.

Vitamin D helps boost a mood immensely!

Or if I don’t feel like doing any work that day, I’ll just lay outside all day and enjoy the sunshine in my garden, while sipping a coffee or mocktail.

The sounds of the birds chirping in the trees always put my mind at ease. If you don’t have a yard, or if you don’t live in a quiet nature setting, you can play the sound of birds on your phone and pretend.

5. Eat Right

We’ve all heard how important diet is for mental wellness. But it’s true.

A well-balanced diet truly can make a difference. 

When I swapped out junk food and limited sugar, in favor of more nutrient-dense options, I saw a notable improvement in my mood and energy levels.

And I couldn’t feel any better.

Believe it or not, you are what you eat. 

Nutrition plays a role in our mental well-being; honestly, a well-fed body equals a well-fed mind.

So as much as you can, embrace a balanced diet. Fruits, veggies, lean proteins, whole grains….

So here is my go-to list for healthier eating.

  • Fresh organic fruits and veggies every day
  • Lean proteins tofu and beans (zero meat)
  • Whole grains such as brown rice and quinoa
  • Healthy fats, like nuts, seeds, and avocado

It wasn’t easy at first because I do have a sweet tooth! But I started practicing food swaps daily.

For example, instead of buying unhealthy store-bought brownies, I made my own banana and protein chocolate brownies at home, from organic and low-fat ingredients.

6. Take Breaks

Remember, we are human beings, not human doings.

It’s ok just to slow down, step away from your desk, and take breaks.

Actually, it’s more than okay – it’s necessary. 

A five-minute walk, a cup of tea, a few deep breaths… these little breaks can do wonders for your mental well-being.

You probably also need to sleep more.

Here’s the kicker, as an entrepreneur, we often sacrifice sleep for work.

Trust me when I say a well-rested brain is your best asset.

You’ll be more alert, more focused, and less stressed.

I do a nightly ritual to signal my body to wind down. 

It could be reading a book, soaking in a warm bath, or meditating.

7. Limit Screen Time

 Yes, try to ditch those screens before bedtime!

What is the difference in sleep quality? Phenomenal.

As someone constantly juggling emails, social media, and countless online tools, I understand how tricky this can be. 

But establishing boundaries like no screens after a particular time at night can lead to better sleep and less anxiety.

8. Practice Gratitude

This is one of my personal favorites. 

Every day, I take a moment to write down three things I’m grateful for. Big or small.

It sounds simple, right? 

But it has done wonders for my mental health.

Practicing gratitude has helped me to focus on the positives rather than getting bogged down by challenges.

And as a business owner, you know there are no shortages of challenges out there.

Buy a good journal and keep note of everything you appreciate in your life.

9. Socialize and Network

Relationships are important, folks. 

Don’t forget to take time out for socializing; by that, I don’t mean just business networking. 

Spend time with family, catch up with old friends, and make new ones…

Trust me, and it’s a great antidote to stress.

Cherish your family and friends, especially in the whirlwind of entrepreneurship.

It’s too easy to lose touch, but the truth is these relationships are the bedrock of emotional support.

They can be the cheers in our victories and the shoulders in our downtimes, so despite your crazy schedule; regular catchups can do a lot for your mental health.

10. Personal Time

Yes, your business is important.

But remember, you’re important too. 

Whether reading a book, painting, gardening, or simply sitting in silence, make sure you take out some “me time” each day. 

Embrace Mindfulness Meditation

As entrepreneurs, we’ve all had those days, right? When the stress is high, and it feels like your brain is on fire?

Been there, done that.

But here’s something that has really helped me: mindfulness meditation.

This is all about focusing on your breath and letting your thoughts come and go.

Sounds simple, right?  Yet, 10 minutes a day can really do wonders.

More efficient thinking helps you better handle complex tasks.

Another fantastic stress reliever is Yoga!

Yoga is a hit for a reason; combining physical poses, breathing techniques, and meditation, yoga is the like a one-stop-shop for relaxation and stress reduction.

And the perks? Flexibility, muscle strength, and lower stress levels; a trifecta.

As entrepreneurs, this can be our go-to method for self-care and boosting our overall well-being.

I mean who said working out couldn’t be relaxing?

Deep Breathing; Your on-the-go Relaxation

As simple as that sounds, deep breathing is incredibly powerful.

The best part is you can do it anywhere, an on-the-go relaxation tool to help you tackle stress wherever you are.

One technique I love and swear by is diaphragmatic breathing.

Here is how it works: 

  • Take a deep breath through your nose, filling your lungs from the bottom up.
  • Then slowly exhale through pursed lips, letting your chest and belly deflate.

Another favorite? The 4-7-8 technique.

Here’s how it works: inhale through the nose for 4 counts, hold it for 7, and then exhale fully through your mouth for a count of 8.

11. Seek Help When Needed

Last but not least, don’t hesitate to seek professional help if you need it.

Mental health matters, and reaching out to a therapist or a counselor is okay when things get tough.
