Fun Things to Do in Crofton, BC
Crofton is one of those places people drive through on their way to the ferry without realizing they just passed something special. It is a small seaside town on the east coast of Vancouver Island, the launch point for the little ferry over to Salt Spring, and it has a slow, salt-air charm that you will find addictive.
You can see the whole place in an afternoon, which is exactly why it makes such a good day out. Here is where to go, what to eat, and how to spend a perfect few hours in town.

Walk the Crofton Seawalk
Start here, because it is the thing that makes Crofton, Crofton. The Crofton Community Seawalk is about a kilometre of raised boardwalk that runs right out over the water, with railings the whole way and benches when you want to sit and stare at the view.
Across the strait you get Salt Spring Island and, on a clear day, snow-capped mountains behind it. There are ducks, geese, the occasional kingfisher, and little crabs working the rocks below.
It is flat, easy, and wheelchair accessible, with parking lots at both ends. Time it for a higher tide if you can, because at full low tide the exposed mud is less picturesque. And a small July bonus: wild blackberries grow along the edges of the path.
Hit the beach at Crofton Beach Park
Right by the seawalk, Crofton Beach Park gives you another stretch of boardwalk plus actual beach to wander. The local oddity worth seeing is the patch of black sand, which feels a little magic the first time you spot it. There picnic tables and public washrooms, so it is an easy spot to settle in for a while.
Find the quiet at Osborne Bay Regional Park
If you want something a touch more secluded, Osborne Bay Regional Park is a short walk through pretty forest down to a calm, pebbly beach scattered with driftwood logs that double as the world’s best reading benches.
The views stretch over to Salt Spring and Maple Mountain, and you can watch the ferry slide across the water. Heads-up for the route: it is an off-leash dog park, so it is paradise if you love saying hi to every pup, and worth knowing in advance if you would rather not.
Coffee and treats, the heart of any good village
Crofton punches well above its size on the coffee front, so pick your mood.
SPAN Artisan Coffee

SPAN is the place I send everyone to first. It is a beautiful, modern little shop obsessed with well-roasted beans and locally sourced honey, and the salted honey latte is the signature for a reason. There is a sweet retail corner too, filled with curated items from local makers as well as gift items the owners have collected around the world.

One thing to plan around: they are open Wednesday through Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday.
Kalisi Coffee

Kalisi Cafe is the cozy, family-friendly pick, with buttery croissants, that brown butter cookie people rave about, lovely matcha and chai, and a thoughtful play area that makes it a genuine win if you have little ones along.
Third Wave Coffee
Third Wave Coffee Company sits right by the ferry terminal and opens early. Solid coffee, veggie sandwiches, baked goods, and a little gift selection of crystals and trinkets to browse while you wait.
Everwell Farmstand

Everwell Farmstand is a must! Fresh eggs, baked goods, ceramics and gifts set up on an open-shelf, honesty-box roadside stand – it’s everything good about a small town in one spot.

Take the ferry to Salt Spring
The ferry from the Crofton terminal over to Vesuvius Bay on Salt Spring Island is short, scenic, and runs roughly every hour, so it is easy to fold a half-day island hop into your plans.
The crossing alone is worth it for the views, and Salt Spring’s markets, galleries, and cafes are a whole adventure on their own.
Tip from an gulf Islander (me): grab a BC Ferries Coast Saver card for a lil’ discount, and give yourself buffer time in summer because this run gets busy.
How I’d spend the afternoon in Crofton
Coffee and a pastry at SPAN to start, a slow loop along the seawalk, a poke around the black sand at Crofton Beach Park, then either a quiet hour with a book at Osborne Bay or a spontaneous ferry hop to Salt Spring if the day is calling for more. Always stop by Everwell Farmstand on the way home! Small town, big payoff.
Crofton does not try to impress you, and that is the whole charm. It just quietly delivers a beautiful, easy, salt-air day, the kind you did not know you needed until you were already there.
