How To Grow Your Business As An Introvert
Have you ever heard of the book titled Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking? It was published in 2012, written by Susan Cain and quickly became a best-seller.
That book became an eye-opener especially for introverts and even parents and friends of introverts. Since then, everyone starts talking about the power of introversion and that includes when growing your business as an individual.
If you prefer a one-on-one meeting with a prospect over a meeting with more than 10 unfamiliar faces, you might be what we call an introvert.
There is a difference between being an introvert and being shy. Most people tend to confuse an introvert as being a shy person.
As an introvert, you enjoy your time alone. Spending a lot of time with others can emotionally drain you. But as a shy person, you don’t necessarily like to be alone. You are just afraid of interacting with others.
Here are 6 steps for how you can grow your business as an introvert
1. Choose your business carefully
When it comes to business, the first step you need to do is to use your strengths.
If you are an introverted person, you can’t multi-task ten different projects that will require you to show up almost every hour. This will drain you mentally and emotionally.
Over time, you will lose your interest in your business.
Always find your strengths and come up with a business plan. Find something that will relate to your personality and your emotional and mental needs.
Opt for a task that does not require much personal interaction and try to start small. And the key to a success as an introvert in a business world is by only hiring the people you need.
2. Listen first, talk later
Introverted businesspeople are well-known for their ability as great listeners.
In this noisy world where everyone seems to be competing to deliver their messages, we need more great listeners who will only talk if they have something of value to say.
As a listener, try to understand what your client needs from you before boasting about your achievements.
If you are a blogger or if you are active on social media, you will see that your personality trait can be reflected easily by what you are writing and representing.
If you stay true to yourself, you will see that over time you will be attracting the clients who value your introversion.

3. Blend both personalities
If you are in the industry that does require you to do a lot of socializing, it may be better for you to find business partners or employees who will complement your personality.
Just because you are an introvert, it doesn’t mean you cannot team up with extroverted people.
These two personalities when they are combined, they make a great team. And we’re not only speaking from the business aspect, but this is also true in every relationship.
Because introversion and extroversions are two collections of their strengths and weaknesses, you will need a perfect blend of both for you to achieve success in your business.
4. Use technology
We are living in this world where everything is a lot easier. Social media is the best thing that has ever happened to introverts.
If you look at everyone’s social media platform, you will notice that no one is afraid of being “social”. And, why is that?
It’s because social media platforms allow people to feel comfortable and they help you find the right community. All you have to do is type a few related keywords and the next thing you know; you are already engaging with your people.
This is why using technology is very important if you want to grow your business as an introvert.

5. Do not isolate yourself
Even though online businesses sound awesome for introverts, truth is, they can be isolating. This is not good for your business and especially for you.
You will often hear introverted businesspeople claiming they can stay at home without leaving the house for days simply because they enjoy it.
But you cannot hide away your best talents and skills. If you can go out to meet a few other business-minded people like you, try to go out for a cup of coffee together.
You might be able to brainstorm some ideas together or create a new friendship. But if that does not really work, you can always interact in ways that work for you.
- go to Instagram and start following a few other people
- comment on other people’s Facebook posts
- and do whatever you can to interact
Whatever that you do, always make sure you are still interacting with a human! You know you need that.

6. Become uncomfortable
There is no better advice than stepping out of your comfort zone. I am an introvert and I love the comfort of my own space.
This allows me to have control over what I want to do and what I cannot do. Besides, talking to 30 unfamiliar faces in a day can drain me mentally and emotionally and I always need extra time to recharge from those interactions.
However, in order for me to succeed in what I am doing, I still need to become uncomfortable. Introversion is not a curse.
It’s a strength and if you know how to play that strength and use it wisely, you will become a successful entrepreneur.
6 Steps To Grow Your Business As An Introvert – Conclusion
Even if you dislike socializing or talking to two or three different people at once, you will still need to learn to be uncomfortable.
Because it is only through discomfort and failures that we can challenge ourselves to grow and learn new things. No one in this world has earned their success in only their comfort zone.
You will always need to step out of your space.
