12 Easy Night Routine Ideas To Get A Good Night's Sleep

What is A Night Routine?

A night routine is a set of habits that you follow every night before bed, designed to help you wind down, relax, and prepare for the next day.

As we navigate through our busy lives, it’s easy to forget the importance of self-care for personal growth.

We often push ourselves to the limit, neglecting the importance of rest and relaxation.

But, it’s crucial to recognize that self-care is essential for our overall well-being and success. And ending the day with a thoughtful night routine can do wonders for your sleep as well as the day ahead!

My Experience Transforming My Life With A Simple Night Routine

Helping people develop healthy habits that increase productivity, happiness and wealth is what I am known for nowadays.

I’ve grown my own company to 7 figures, and I’ve helped thousands of clients and students via my business training programs at HerPaperRoute.

Putting some structure around my day, including starting a night routine absolutely made it possible for me to hit those big revenue goals, as well as improve my health, mental wellness and interpersonal relationships.

However, a night routine is not something I’ve always done.

In fact, 10 years ago I had very little structure in my life, and it was costing me to spiral in many areas.

Back then, I would stay out all hours of the night, work low-income jobs, eat poorly and waste time.

If someone suggested I should start a night routine back then, I probably would have laughed at them.

My night routine in my 20s consisted of:

  • bartending until 2am
  • followed by dancing till 5am with my friends at an after hours
  • followed by eating a falafel wrap from a 24-hour kabob shop as the sun rises
  • And stumbling home, passing out without washing my makeup off, and sleeping in until 1pm to do it all over again.

Not good at all!

Well, growing up a little, starting a family and getting sober changed my outlook on life and my priorities for the better.

Because once I got serious about self-improvement, and started my transformation journey to become the best, healthiest, happiest version of myself, everything changed.

Why is having a night routine important?

Having a night routine is important for several reasons.

Better Sleep Quality

A night routine helps you wind down from the day and signal to your body that it’s time to sleep.

This can improve the quality of your sleep, help you fall asleep faster, and stay asleep longer.

Increased Productivity

When you have a night routine, you can use the time before bed to plan for the next day, reflect on your day, and engage in relaxing activities.

This can help you feel more organized and prepared, which can increase your productivity the next day.

Reduced Stress and Anxiety:

A night routine can also help reduce stress and anxiety by allowing you to engage in calming activities, such as mindfulness or meditation.

This can help calm your mind and reduce the physiological response to stress, which can help you sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed.

Establishing Good Habits:

Creating a consistent night routine can help you establish good habits and create a sense of structure in your life.

This can have a positive impact on your overall well-being and make it easier to achieve your goals.

Overall, having a night routine can help you optimize your sleep, increase productivity, reduce stress and anxiety, and establish good habits.

A well-structured bedtime routine is just as important as a well-structured morning routine.

A night routine, like when you wake up in the morning, keeps you from wandering around aimlessly, and it prepares you to go to bed relaxed and calm.

More Benefits of a night routine:

  • Increased sleep duration
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Makes the morning a much smoother experience
  • Helps the brain to function at peak levels during the day
  • Relaxes you from work and day stress

For the reasons mentioned above, it’s crucial to develop a consistent nighttime routine in which you allow yourself 1 hour or 2 hours of relaxing time.

It doesn’t mean that I have to be asleep by 7pm, it just means that at 7pm I need to be in my pajamas, about to start my daily night routine process.

So, choose a time of the evening when you will start your night routine.

2. Avoid Caffeine 7 Hours Before Going to Bed

Caffeine is the most widely overconsumed central nervous system stimulant in the world.

We all enjoy it. We all crave it right when we open our eyes in the morning.

We feel that, without it, we can’t properly function. And it’s super addictive too. Personally, I LOVE coffee!

But, studies have shown that consuming caffeine 3 to even 6 hours before going to bed, significantly disrupts sleeping patterns.

Even consuming it 6 hours prior, studies suggest that caffeine reduced sleep by one hour.

So, step one of your new night routine is to stop drinking coffee at least 7 hours before your ‘bedtime reminder’ goes off.

3. Avoid Alcohol 4 Hours Before Going to Bed

Research has shown drinking alcohol before going to bed is often related to needing more time to fall asleep.

Alcohol also interferes with the quality of sleep, suppressing melatonin (the “sleeping hormone”).

Regardless of its impact on sleep, alcohol is a terrible poison and detrimental to anyone’s health.

When I decide to stop drinking altogether, everything in my life improved. Give sobriety a shot!

Yes! So while you are in the shower, take some time to think positive thoughts, say some affirmations, and cast your manifestation, whatever it may be.

Because waking up to a tidy living space is a great mood booster.

On the contrary, going to bed while having just eaten a heavy meal is also a no-go. Indigestion and the feeling of a bloated stomach can disrupt your sleep.

To get the best of both worlds, you should eat a light snack, packed with proteins. Such a meal is Greek yogurt with a handful of nuts.
