I used to just wake up whenever, and see where the day takes me day after day. I had no ritual, no routine, and as a result, I didn’t get much done.
But once I started practicing intentional morning habits, my life really did change for the better. Both internally and externally.
In this article, I will share 5 easy morning habits you can use to set yourself up for happier, more productive days.
5+ Morning Habits That Are Simple And Effective
Social media has us all believe that the best morning habits of successful people are:
- waking up to a perfectly clean room
- immediately doing 1000 push-ups, meditating, doing yoga
- making a $5,000 smoothie with the finest ingredients imported from Italy
- Unboxing a box of $10,000 worth of jewelry gifted by the brand
- …all before 7 am.
I call that ^ the faux-influencer morning routine. Where each shot is perfectly styled and staged for the camera. Where the influencer had to record 30 takes to get the perfect shot of their expression when they open the box of jewelry for the “first time.”
Reality is oftentimes very different.
But there should still be some sort of routine to your mornings.
As I’ve discussed in a previous article (How To Wake Up Early And Not Feel Tired), morning habits for most people are usually about hitting the snooze button, staying and cuddling with your bedsheets until it’s too late, scrolling through Social media, and so on.
Each of those things might give you some dopamine in the moment, but they aren’t the best for your overall wellness.
And they do actually drain your productivity and energy in the long run.
So although you don’t have to have the Faux-Influencer morning habits (which are probably unsustainable, even fo the influencer) it pays to have some sort of morning routine.
Friends, I don’t always have The Perfect Morning every day.
But, with some consistency and a little discipline, I have way more wins than losses.

Mistake To Avoid: Going To Bed Late
Did you know that 1 in 3 adults don’t get enough sleep? 50-70 million U.S citizens of all ages are not getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep on a regular basis.
Sleeping less than that is associated with an increased risk of developing many health problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart diseases, strokes, and mental issues, such as anxiety, depression, and so on.
We are all victims of this.
When I was a student, I had many sleepless nights studying for exams or working on a school project.
In my twenties, I’ve had a lot of sleepless nights going out and partying like a maniac.
But I’ve come to realize that, without enough sleep, you won’t be giving your 100% at school or work.
No matter how many cups of coffee you drink or how many slaps you give to your face.
So, don’t go to bed late.

Morning Habits To Live By: How Should You Approach The Very First Minutes After You Wake Up?
If you want to maximize your early minutes and get your day started the best way possible, listen up!
You should try one, if not all, of these really simple yet effective morning habit tips.
1. Drink Water
Think about it.
You’ve *hopefully* been asleep for 7-8 hours, that’s great!
But without any fluid coming in, your body is dehydrated in the mornings, so it requires some water ASAP.
I try to drink 0.5 to 1lt of water as soon as I wake up.
That’s enough to get me hydrated and activate my digestive system.
I also like to keep a bottle of face serum close to where I drink water. That way, while I’m filling my cup I am reminded to do skincare. Doing two things at once is called habit-stacking and it’s a great productivity hack.
2. Limit Your Distractions
From the moment you wake up, you’re potentially bombarded with a ton of distractions, most of them coming from your phone.
If you are someone who knows that you have messages or emails to respond to, then do yourself a favor and don’t check them.
Actually, don’t even bother checking your phone until after you’ve completed your morning habits, and intentionally started your work day.
Getting a preview of what’s waiting for you when it’s time to start your work will cause you anxiety, instead of productivity.
Learn more about this by reading Atomic Habits.
3. Meditate
Meditation is one of those things that at the beginning you may absolutely hate it, and you may view it as a chore.
But meditating just 5-10 minutes in the morning has incredible benefits that will up your productivity in no time!
Some of the benefits are:
- It sets a tone of calm and peacefulness for the entire day.
- It gives you more energy.
- Builds focus.
- Meditation gives you an overall sense of well-being.
4. Don’t Skip Breakfast
I know, we’ve all been in a situation where we don’t have the time to eat breakfast.
But there’s no excuse to skip the most important meal of the day.
Make yourself an extra 10-15 minutes by waking up a little earlier, so you can cook yourself a healthy, nutritious vegetarian meal packed with complex carbs, proteins and fruit.
A healthy breakfast should give you the necessary amount of energy to kick-start your day.
5. Update your Gratitude Journal
Each morning, take 3 minutes to add a few things to your gratitude list.
Practicing gratitude is one of the easiest ways to raise your vibration.
I also like to include some intentions that I have for the day, as well as an affirmation or two.
6. Excercise
Give yourself a few minutes to jog on your home treadmill, or go to the gym. Or even just a casual walk outside.
Starting your day with these morning habits will set you up for a successful and grounded day.
