Coming up with unique blog post topics to stand out in an overcrowded internet can be an aggravating time-sucker, to say the least.
But there are some very simple ways to source inspiration and find enjoyment in writing again!
Below is a list of 10 ways you can find inspiration for what to blog about, in any niche.
What To Blog About? 10 Ways To Find Content Inspiration
If you are new to blogging, you may be so overwhelmed with ideas that you don’t know where to start.
Well, if that’s the case, I say, just start writing! Your writing flow will come with time. Just get it out now.
And If you have been blogging for a while and are starting to feel your inspiration is drying up, that’s pretty common.
You know the feeling I’m referring to. You sit at your computer, cursor blinking, no idea what to blog about. Now what?
It’s not time to give up. It’s just time to step away from your blog and start looking after your creative energies.
Before you dig into these 10 ways to find ideas for what to blog about, first let me ask you something.
Do you want to make $100,000 with your blog?
I’m, guessing the answer is yes! I earned $100k in less than 2 years when I launched HerPaperRoute. And I realized that there were 8 things that I did in those first 2 years that really contributed to that income.
So I wrote them out in this book Blogging To 100k!
If you are struggling to make good money with your blog, and want to finally be able to order the $19 avocado toast without a worry, then you should read this book.
No fluff, just straight-to-the-point strategies explaining what I did, how, and when that contributed to hitting $100k blogging in less than 2 years.
Got your book? Ok, now let’s talk about clever ways to come up with ideas for what to blog about.
1. Survey Your Audience
What better way to get content ideas than to straight-up ask your subscribers what they want?
It’s as simple as opening a Google Form or using your Honeybook questionnaire form. Honeybook is my pick for sure.
Include 2-3 questions about your reader’s struggles, related to your niche.
I’d keep it at 2-3 questions because time is precious. And if you ask someone to fill out a long survey, well, most people will click away.
In all seriousness, the number of questions you include is your decision to make.
You may be phishing for information related to a more in-depth subject, of course.
I wrote a detailed guide on how I survey my audience, give it a read!
2. Survey Facebook Groups
Create a poll in your Facebook group, and the groups you are a member in (that allow it).
We allow members to post polls in the HerPaperRoute Facebook group, come join!
I’m assuming you are in niche-related groups, so everyone in there most likely has the same issues or struggles.
Create a post and type in your question and add 3-5 answers for them to choose from. Allow them to write in their own option too.
For example, you may ask your fellow bloggers, what kind of lead magnet would they recommend for your niche. Or you may ask potential customers what struggle they have related to something in your niche.
Then proceed to create the solution and package it into a lead magnet. It could be a:
- Mini-course (Read: How to create a free course and use it to earn 5 figures)
- checklist
- challenge
- video series
- Trello Board
- planner
- etc.
3. Improve Your Older Content
Once you’ve been blogging for a while, you’ve probably gained more knowledge than you had when you started blogging.
It’s good for your SEO to frequently update older content with new info. You could also write an extension of an older blog post…kind of like a sequel. Who doesn’t love a good sequel?
By creating an extension to an older blog post, you’ve created an opportunity to add Internal deep links to the posts.
This can encourage your readers to stay on your blog longer by offering similar content to what they were looking for when they stumbled upon your blog from a Google Search.
Another way to repurpose your older content is to package it up and deliver it in a new way. See the next tip for details!
4. Repurpose & Diversify How You Deliver Your Blog Posts
Who needs more work added to your blogging workload? Not you, not me.
So I want to share a few ideas for ways you can turn the blog posts you’ve already created into another form of deliverable, traffic-driving content!
Repurposing the content you have already spent time creating gives your audience more opportunities to buy from you.
All the while ensuring that you are visible across multiple platforms – without creating more work.
As you would be if you were creating new content from scratch.
a. Turn it into a video
Round up a bunch of related posts and turn them into a series of Youtube videos!
Most people would rather watch a video than read a blog post. And yet most bloggers aren’t active on Youtube. Consider jumping on the current Tik Tok craze.
You could also turn a collection of your blog posts into one webinar which you can use as a tool to promote your paid offers.
b. Podcast
Give your blog content a voice, and reach the market of podcast listeners!
Pull the audio from any of your videos, edit if needed and add the audio to your new podcast.
Or, narrate your blog posts and turn them into a series of podcast episodes.
psst…have you tuned into the HerPaperRoute podcast yet?
c. Email Challenge
The same goes for this one: Gather up a bunch of your related content and create a 5, 7, or 10-day email challenge.
Break down the end result into small increments, delivered through email, every day.
d. eBook
Again, take snippets of related content from your blog posts and create an eye-catching eBook to put up for sale in your brand new shop.
If you haven’t opened up a shop, now is the time.
e. Course
Selling online courses is where it’s at!
Online courses are the best form of recurring, near-passive income there is.
You can create a text-based course or a course with a mix of text, images, and video. Your choice.
I use this platform to create my courses and am a big fan. They make it super simple. And they don’t withhold any of your sales (like some other platforms do).
Don’t think people will buy your stuff?
Think again. Not everyone wants to spend countless hours, mindlessly scouring your blog or the internet for all the information on how to do something.
When they can buy your product that will help them get from point A to point B way faster.
Convenience is currency.
Want to know the ultimate reason why you should diversify your blog posts?
…Money!
Yep, that’s right. You can turn around and package up these lil beauties and sell them to your raving fans. In that new shop you are creating.
Don’t think people will buy your stuff?
Think again. Not everyone wants to spend countless hours, mindlessly scouring your blog or the internet for all the information on how to do something when they can buy your product that will help them get from point A to point B way faster than reading a zillion contradicting blog posts.
5. Put Your Twist On Hot Topics
Visit your favorite blogs in your niche. See what topics they are writing about. Think about how you could write your own, longer, better and more helpful article about that topic.
This is called the SkyScraper technique, and it’s how a lot of pros get inspiration for what to blog about and climb the SERPs. Because, Google wants to show the best, most informative content on page 1, after all.
But remember, It’s easy to get inspiration from reading articles, and inspiration is great. The important thing to be aware of is that you must never copy the actual content.
That is called plagiarism and copyright infringement. If you copy someone else’s work, you will find yourself in major legal trouble, real quick.
So always be aware of the inspiration, without replicating the source. The key is to take an idea and put your original spin on it.
- Picture it: You are looking for a chocolate chip cookie recipe so you search Pinterest.
- 80,000 recipes pop up…hmmm, how many types of chip cookies can there be?
- The creators of these recipes follow the same recipe but put their own twist on it.
- Each article is written completely differently, with a different story, and different tips.

6. Visit Online Platforms
Go explore Google Trends, Buzzsumo, and Pinterest Trends to see what hot topics are trending and going viral.
BuzzSumo is cool because you can see what content in your niche performs the best. You can see which blog posts written by your fellow niche bloggers are doing well as far as social media shares, evergreen scoring, and the total number of engagements on the post.
If it’s a hit, write your version.
7. Stalk The Comments From Other Blogs In Your Niche
Take a look at what people are saying in the comments of other bloggers’ articles.
Are they asking questions? Asking for more explanation? Having other issues? Write your article that answers all this.
8. Your Mastermind Group
If you aren’t networking and haven’t made some blogging buddies by now, start! I suggest you work on reaching out and developing relationships with other bloggers of all niches.
Not everyone will interact but eventually, you’ll grab the attention of a fellow biz buddy and become fast friends, bouncing ideas off each other and holding each other accountable.
No one understands your online life better than someone else who’s living it, too.
9. Be A Leader
Sick of seeing the same old crap written in your niche?
Well, customers of your niche are probably tired of reading the same things, too.
When you’ve been blogging for a while, you’ll probably read a lot of information that you will disagree with.
Write your blog posts from experience. Become one with your topic, and write from your true experience.
10. Interview A Fellow Blogger Or Entrepreneur
Feature a rising star in your niche, an influential work-at-home mom, or your favorite podcasters. You can find amazing people in Facebook groups.
Write a post in a Facebook group and ask people what their profession is. Mention that you’re looking to want to write a feature about X.
Once your eager interviewees take the bait, write up some questions that will get them to open up about what it is they do and who they serve.
Get them to tell their story in fine detail.
HINT: Everyone loves a “rags to riches” story!
Email the questionnaire to them, review their answers and write your post. Remember to link to their site.
They’ll be so tickled that you featured them on your blog because let’s face it, we all love exposure. Ask them to share it on their social media and voila, free traffic for you from a new audience.
